South Australian Comfort Care Innovation Projects (SACCIP)
~ Across City & Country South Australia ~

South Australian Comfort Care Innovations are led by NATSIPCA and supported by the Department for Health and Wellbeing.

Our efforts are dedicated to strengthening culturally responsive, healing-informed Comfort Care across metropolitan, peri-urban, rural,  regional, and remote South Australia.

These two concurrent innovation projects aim to improve equity and access to culturally responsive, healing-informed Comfort Care for Aboriginal peoples through co-designed education, awareness, and planning.

Through innovation we seek to change systems that were not built for mob. We listen first, work locally, and build capacity to support Comfort Care journeys and agreed ways of working that respects culture, family, and choice.

WHY THIS MATTERS

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people face unique barriers to culturally safe Comfort Care. These innovations supports individuals, families and communities to co- design and agreed on Comfort Care that respects culture, dignity, connection and choice.

WAYS OF WORKING

We’re working with communities and services to improve access, connection, and dignity regarding Comfort Care journeys. Through engaging community visits and educational workshops, we’ll encourage local community members and services to take positive steps towards improving equity and access to Comfort Care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

MEET THE TEAM

Strong cultural governance guides our project team that brings together Aboriginal leadership, cultural knowledge, and health system expertise, to working alongside Elders, families, community organisations, and services.

Together, we are focused on strengthening Comfort Care so it is culturally safe, flexible, and led by what matters most to each person and their family. Comfort Care is important for everyone by supporting dignity, choice, connection, healing and wellbeing at any stage of serious illness across life’s journey’s not just at the end of life and ensures people are cared for in a way that respects culture, spirit, family, community and their preferences.
